Shouting and smart phones. You likely know that the Occupational Safety Healthy Act (OSH Act) has a noise level limit. But how do you know whether noise you are being exposed to exceeds the OSH Act limits? ( 85 decibels). After all, not many of us, even us safety guys, carry around noise dosimeters.
Here is a handy field test OSHA suggests: If you have to raise your voice to speak to someone 3 feet away, the noise levels might be over 85 decibels. (https://www.osha.gov/noise)
Another handy tool I recently discovered was my smart phone has a sound meter. While it may not be as accurate as a noise dosimeter specifically designed and made to register sound levels, the smart phone will likely be close.
Shouting and smart phones may help you avoid the hazard of loud noise.
