Stairways and railings for fall protection.

Falls are a serious injury issue in the work place.  IN the oil and gas industry employees often work at heights.  Whether actually working at heights or walking/down stairs or working on platforms, the hazard of falling is ever present.

What is the employer’s responsibility for protecting oil and gas workers from falls?  Well, the Occupational Safety Health Act requires that stairs, for example, have hand rails any time there is an unprotected side or edge of a stairway that is four feet or more above a lower level.

Solution is simple, make sure hand rails are in place.   OSHA 1910.28 (b) (11).
